Definition of a successful Project?

1st: A Project should be completed on Time and within Budget and with best Quality,
... & from a Suppliers point of view, the Margin should increase.
... & from a Customer point of view, the Budget should be undercut and/or the contingency should not be used.
2nd: It must be executed to a high construction and safety standard, without accidents and with no major problems or disruptions during the execution process.
3rd: The project should reach contractual agreements on Performance | Output | Quality.

Project Milestones

The Project Milestones are important and predefined checkpoints or events within a project. They serve as indicators and gauge progress as they are connected to a Time Schedule with defined dates for each Milestone.

The Model on the left is an example and shows a possible Lifecycle Process for a larger Solution Provider or equipment manufacturer.

Note: Every Company does their projects differently! However, the idea and main steps of Project Management basics are the same everywhere in this industry. Therefore you can take this example as a good base to build your own model.

Contingency !!!

As a PM its YOUR responsibility to have contingency in your projects. Its also your responsibility to release it when you feel appropriate. Important, contingency shows twofold - 1st as $ amount and 2nd in TIME! Every time-schedule you put together must have TIME contingency imbedded.
